It is no secret that the world of online commerce can be cutthroat, but a recent New York Times report revealed just how ruthless some companies can be. According to the report, many businesses have been paying for falsified product reviews, boosting their standings even on trusted sites such as Amazon.com. In fact, the Times report suggests that some companies have been caught offering refunds to customers in exchange for glowing reviews. Federal regulators are beginning to crack down on this practice, leaving businesses to come up with new ways to promote their products. A company called Logix9 is offering small businesses a chance to do exactly that. In response to the New York Times piece, Logix9 has issued a statement decrying these dishonest promotional methods, but pledging to help small businesses market themselves in more effective and efficient ways.
Logix9, an educational company devoted to helping small business owners learn the fundamentals of online marketing, says in statement that the methods cited in the Times report are not just dishonest, but ineffective. We view other companies practices of paying for good reviews as highly unethical, says a company spokesperson. In the end, this not only hurts honest companies offering reputable products but is also a huge disservice to the general public.
Rather than pay for reviews, business owners can promote their businesses through savvy and effective online marketing campaigns, the Logix9 spokesperson continues. The company provides training services in social marketing, business blogging, pay-per-click marketing, and more.
Additionally, Logix9 provides business owners with training in the basics of Web design and HTML, but the focus is always on marketing and promotion. The company is aimed squarely at the owners of small and medium-sized businesses, including home-based businesses. The objective, says the Logix9 spokesperson, is to empower business owners to propel their sales and maximize their exposure, honestly and effectively.
Implementing these non-falsified marketing strategies will likely prove beneficial to companies in more ways than one, as the Times reports that not only is regulation cracking down, but new technology is making it easier to spot fake reviews on sites like Amazon.

62% of those responding to an informal survey created by Sheila Danzig indicated that they believed an Internet business was their best options to beat a bad economy.

would be doing it.
But I also always told them to find a great idea and copy it, without violating any copyrights.”
