It’s hard not to feel defeated by all the negative headlines about the depressed economy and slow housing market. All of this bad news is particularly worrying for anyone dreaming of starting a home staging business.
Because of her high profile in the home staging industry, founder of the Staging Diva? Home Staging Business Training Program, Debra Gould, receives inquiries on a daily basis from aspiring stagers worried about starting a business in this economy and slow real estate market.
Today Gould is announcing the release of a free Ask Staging Diva? report which answers the question, ‘Can I grow a home staging business in a depressed economy?’
Included in this free 35 page report are the six main reasons why home staging businesses thrive in a slow housing market, three common myths about the economy, sixteen ways to get money now to help build a home staging business, real-life examples of how staging has helped non-selling homes attract offers within days, a recommended reading list and many additional resources.
“Starting a business means leaving your comfort zone and it doesn’t take much to deter someone from acting on their dream of becoming self-employed,” states Gould. She adds, “Every day I hear from aspiring home stagers who want to start their own business, but nay-saying family members and friends on top of news of a poor real estate market, have them discouraged about moving forward. I’ve taken all the advice I give them, combined with additional research into real estate and other statistics, and compiled it into a special report. I’m offering this free because I want this information to be put in the hands of as many aspiring and struggling home stagers as possible to help them make informed decisions about their futures,” states expert home stager, Debra Gould.
Since 2004, more than 1000 people from around the world have been trained by Gould through the Staging Diva? Home Staging Business Training Program. The focus of the Staging Diva? program is on how to grow a profitable home staging business. Students benefit from Gould’s extensive marketing background and her experience in starting and growing her own successful home staging company, Six Elements Inc.
Gould started her first successful business, a marketing consulting firm, at the beginning of the 1990s recession.
She states, “Even though everyone said I was crazy to quit my high-level job to start a business, I knew there would be more security in working for myself than for someone else.” Soon she was earning more than she ever did as an employee while her fellow MBA graduates were being laid off from their corporate jobs.
“My hope is that after reading this report, home stagers will feel more secure with their choice to start a home staging business, and understand the significant opportunities that exist today regardless of what the economy is doing,” says Gould.

Today marks the one year anniversary of an Indiana home builder demolishing a deserving family?s mold-infested dwelling for ABC?s ?Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.? Only 106 hours later, the Cowan-Brown family joined Ty Pennington in yelling those famous words, ?Move that bus!? just before the family captured their first glimpse of their new home, built by Hallmark Homes and thousands of community volunteers, including American Idol winner, David Cook.
?It?s hard to believe it?s only been a year since we were selected for this life-changing project,? says Paul Schwinghammer, president of Hallmark Homes. ?A day hasn?t gone by that I haven?t thought of the experience we had helping the Cowan-Brown family and organizing thousands of eager volunteers while racing against the clock to finish in time.
It was a humbling testament to how giving Hoosiers are.?
The Cowan-Brown family desperately needed a new home that was free of an extreme mold infestation, but Andy and Heather Cowan were unable to rebuild their home on their own, as they were already struggling to support their four children on wages earned as factory workers. Their youngest child, Kori, battles a congenital blood disease, which was aggravated by the environmental conditions in the family?s former home, and had already received 17 invasive operations before Ty Pennington knocked on the family?s door last October.
This summer, Kori underwent another surgery, but this time she was able to come home to a place of peace and healing. ?This time it was different,? says Heather Cowan in a recent thank-you letter to Hallmark Homes, ?there was no keeping her quarantined from parts of the house that wouldn?t let her heal. It was a wonderful thing just to be able to focus on her.?
?Our home still takes my breath away,? continues Cowan. ?I never would have sat down and described this as my dream home. It is much more than my dreams!?
Hallmark Homes was chosen by ABC, in part, because the local builder has distinguished itself as a top Indiana home builder (2009 Indianapolis Business Journal). In business for over 18 years, Hallmark Homes has received numerous accolades for its work and commitment to customer satisfaction.
To celebrate the custom home built for the Cowan-Brown family, Hallmark Homes has released numerous volunteer videos on YouTube about its experience on ABC?s ?Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.? To learn more about Hallmark Homes, visit http://www.hallmarkhomes.com.
