In order to be successful in any venture you have to start with planning. You cannot just leave your home without a destination in mind. Your destination could be the shop around the corner, or a stroll around your local area. The destination determines what you need to prepare. You can not embark on a thousand mile trip in just your jogger shorts and vest; most likely you might not even be allowed to board the plane.
Planning is needed before one ventures into working from home or a small business opportunity. The easiest way to do this is to write down your objectives. Your objectives should be S.M.A.R.T; Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bounded. The amount of planning and attention paid to detail will determine the level of success or lack of it. You need to begin by taking stock of yourself. What are your strengths and what are your weaknesses? How do your strengths and weaknesses impact on your proposed venture? Besides personal attributes, what other resources do you have or can you mobilize. How much time can you commit to the business? What are your life experiences and what skills have you got? Like on any journey, once you have taken stock of yourself then you can begin on the next step which is where do you want to go? Have you got enough provisions for your journey? How much do you have in terms of time, money and commitment?
Starting any business or changing your way of life and begin working on the internet from home is a major decision. It is not always fair weather in life and in business, you know. You need to ask yourself what you would do if things do not go according to plan. At the first hurdle, are you going to throw in the towel and look for the first scapegoat? “I was not told the truth before I started. Internet marketing is for the big corporations! I wish I had known.” Or are you going to put your face to the grind and face whatever situation faces you squarely vowing never to give up until you succeed? For the road to success is not always smooth, it is full of highs and lows, but if you are prepared to take both as they come, and always remember that Rome was not built in a day, then half your battle is won.
One thing you need is a clear vision of where you want to go, who you want to be. This vision will always be your beacon even when things get tough. A good tool to use on the journey to success is self evaluation and you need to be truthful to yourself when you do this. How are you measuring to the task at hand? Is there need to make changes? At times our expectations are too high or on the other hand our commitment is too low. The biggest challenge you might face on this road is changing the man in the mirror. How much are you prepared to let go of the self you are used to in order to become that new self that is in-keeping with your mission? A clear idea of who you want to be and the things that need to be changed will go a long way in helping you achieve your goals. Things to be changed can include attitude, points of view, old habits and at times we need to let go of old associations. Remember to always aim for the sun if you do not make it, you will still end up a star!
